DISH versus DirecTV: Why Would You Ever Pay More?

September 3rd, 2012

There are plenty of reasons to switch from DirecTV to DISH. The best technology, like the whole-home HD DVR the Hopper and its Primetime Anytime and AutoHop features. The best value, like that fact that DISH offers 5 packages with everyday prices under $60. DIRECTV? Only One. Also, the average DIRECTV customer spends 20% more than the average DISH customer.

If cutting-edge technology and great savings aren’t enough, how do you feel about customer service? According to the 2012 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) survey DISH Network was the highest rated satellite service in customer service. DirecTV meanwhile is struggling to maintain a C- rating from the Better Business Bureau. And they don’t even offer 24/7 tech support. Unlike DISH Network, which is there for you 24/7/365 for tech and customer support, on the phone or online. DISH cares about customers, and we did not raise our rates this year. DirecTV raised theirs by 4.9%.

It’s a clear choice. DISH offers the best technology, the best value and great customer service. Why would you ever pay more for less service?

American Film Institute’s 100 Best Films on Blockbuster!

January 13th, 2012

The American Film Institutes ‘s 100 Years, 100 Movies is an archive of the best films of the last 100 years. Determined by a jury of 1,500 film artists, critics and historians the films presented are classics such as Rear Window and Citizen Kane, more modern films like The Godfather and Rocky, and even newer blockbusters like Titanic and Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings.

Watching all 100 greatest movies ever made is a “bucket list” choice for many people, but how to go about locating and viewing all 100 movies? Well, Blockbuster has made it easy and simple, with their AFI’s Top 100 list! There’s even a handy button you can use to add all of the films to your queue, watching the best movies has never been more simple.

Below are some of our favorites that made the list!

Sophie’s Choice

In 1949 aspiring writer, and film narrator, Stingo moves to Brooklyn where becomes embroiled in the lives of an unsteady couple, Holocaust survivor Sophie and research chemist Nathan. Nathan’s violent mood swings and the dark secret Sophie holds close seem likely to consume them in this heart wrenching film.

Clockwork Orange

In future Britain, charismatic delinquent Alex DeLarge is jailed and volunteers for an experimental aversion therapy developed by the government in an effort to solve society’s crime problem… but not all goes to plan. Stanley Kubrick’s scathing look at a not-so-distant future dominated by high-tech moral decay is an American cult classic.

Jaws

When a gigantic great white shark begins to menace the small island community of Amity, a police chief, a marine scientist and grizzled fisherman set out to stop it. The two-note score to Jaws is synonymous with suspense and danger, a simple alternation of E and F most can recognize instantly.

Forrest Gump

Tom Hanks stars as Forrest Gump, an unlikely figure in some of history’s most pivotal moments in the 60’s and 70’s. Through the journey of Forrest’s life – from college football star to war hero to ping pong champ and cross-country runner – his childhood friend Jenny is a constant figure in his heart. Forrest Gump was lauded with awards and remains a favorite nearly twenty years after it was released.

DISH vs DIRECTV

August 8th, 2011

Switch from DIRECTV and choose from 6 packages with everyday prices that cost less than DIRECTV’s basic package. For the most-watched channels in America, you’ll pay less and get more with DISH Network.

The fact is, DIRECTV can’t compete with DISH Network’s everyday low prices.

DIRECTV claims to have the most advanced technology, but only DISH Network gives you TV Everywhere, and the ability to watch live TV and DVR recordings anywhere, anytime on your laptop, smartphone or tablet.

DIRECTV’s Whole-Home DVR is supposed to allow you to access your DVR from any TV in your home. In truth only ONE television can be used as a DVR, you cannot pause or rewind live TV on your other TVs. Some may be okay with only having one TV able to act as a DVR, as long as you can access the DVR recordings from all of your other TVs. Well only one receiver can access DIRECTV’s Whole-Home DVR at a time, meaning you can only watch recordings from one TV at a time. DIRECTV’s Whole-Home DVR requires a separate HD receiver for each television, that’s an additional $99 charge for each extra receiver.

DIRECTV says they offer free HD for life, but that only applies to their higher-level packages, which can cost up to $114.99/mo.

DIRECTV offers only half the programming choices that DISH Network delivers – that’s not much of a choice.

Why pay more for less?
